鄧演達，廣東惠陽人。 1909年入廣東陸軍小學，同年加入中國同盟會。武昌起義後投身姚雨平北伐軍，之後曾入武昌陸軍第二預備學校、保定軍官學校學習。 1920年任粵軍營長。 1922年赴滬面諤孫中山，依照孫的指示組織西路討賊軍討伐陳炯明。 1923年春升任團長，負責陸海軍大本營警衛工作。 1924年參與籌建黃埔軍校，擔任軍校教練部副主任兼學生總隊長。 1926年，國民革命軍北伐開始後，擔任總政治部主任。 1927年3月當選為國民黨中央執行委員、中央政治委員會委員、中央軍事委員會主席團成員、農民部部長。 1930年組織國民黨臨時行動委員會（即第三黨，今日中國農工民主黨），主張在中國建立以農工為中心的平民政權。隔年準備武裝起義，後來在上海被捕，11月29日被蔣介石秘密殺害於南京。
