The helmet was presumably worn by Sarmautic auxiliae. The original is nowadays part of the collection of the Coptic Museum in Cairo. Constructed from 1. 6 mm thick steel, the Spangenhelmet has been designed for re enactment and living history. Helmets such as this were worn by the Germanic tribes during the Great Migrations.
